FEEL THE NEED FOR REST?

1/3/2019

Do you ever feel you need a vacation from your vacation?  We can so easily get exhausted during the Christmas holidays!  Every year we say the same thing don’t we…”I’m not doing this to myself next year, I’m going to simplify and make Christmas less stressful”.

I was actually feeling really proud of myself this year!  I put up limited decorations and did a GREAT job with shopping ahead.  But alas, it ended up being one of the busiest holiday seasons ever because I took on as many extra jobs as I could fit into my calendar.  Musicians are in greater demand during the holidays so we have to make hay while the sun is shining!
What I didn’t count on was a rare early December snow storm that would push all my extra performances into the same week!  While I was somewhat complaining to a fellow piano teacher about how busy I was, and the many hats musicians have to wear, her response stopped me in my tracks!  She said, “Aren’t we privileged though?”  WOW!  I needed that!
It was good to be reminded that being a musician really is a privilege.  Sometimes I wish I was a scientist working on a cure for cancer, or a first responder saving lives,  or even a good cook taking meals to people in need.  It's easy to start wondering if what you do makes a difference.

Then…out of nowhere… messages like these that I received in response to
"A Shepherd’s Wonder", remind me of why I do what I do.

“You’re my angel today…I have been very ill and discouraged.  I just watched this several times. It was so uplifting”

“ I can’t stop crying watching this!  Thank you so much for sharing your talent”

“…very soothing in my time of pain”
It always means the world to receive these messages.  The true prayer of my heart is that people feel touched by God’s presence through my music, whatever their need or circumstance.
As I look forward to 2019, I am feeling the need for REST.  Not rest from work, or new projects, but rest from my own striving.  I can hear the words of Mother Teresa saying “We must let Him do it! We are but His hands and feet; we must let Him do the work!”
My verse for 2019 is Hebrews 4:11
“ Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest”.

In keeping with this theme for 2019, here is my new single of Lance Allen’s beautiful song “Rest Your Way Home”.
Listen on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, YouTube.  Also available on Google Play, Deezer and other outlets.  Sheet music available at www.marlowecarruth.com

Not sure if you remembered me (Judson's dad), but Beth and I are enjoying your music immensely. May God bless as you continue to give Him the honor and glory through your musical talent.

I love that mother Teresa quote! I also love your verse for 2019. I find true rest by reminding myself of who God is and that I can trust Him with all my cares and concerns!
