The Story Behind "A New Morning" A simple melody of Hope

I never know what song will speak to my listeners at any given time.  Sometimes a song that I consider to be very simple can turn out to be an audience favorite.  Such has been the case with “A New Morning”.   Whenever I play it in concert, someone usually comments about it.  Even a person battling cancer was recently moved to tears in my living room as I played it for them.   That’s when I knew I needed to release it!  This recording is straight from my own living room!

The title came from the grandmother of one of my former students named Anna. 

  ​  Anna's grandmother, endearingly called “Ma’am”, had lost her husband not long before she started bringing Anna to her weekly piano lessons.  Being very musical herself and a great encourager of creativity, Ma’am would always enjoy hearing what I was composing at the time.  One day, I played this tune for her and with a tear in her eye she said, “Oh I love it! It gives me a feeling of hope, like a new morning!”  

That’s when I knew I had my title!  This song is forever  dedicated to "Ma'am".
